A Structured Pathway into Graduate Health Programs

San Francisco State University and Samuel Merritt University are partnering to create a smooth, supportive pathway for future health professionals. Building on that foundation, students will benefit from defined admissions pathways, reserved seat opportunities in select programs, and dedicated admissions support into Samuel Merritt University’s graduate health programs.

How It Works

Enroll in the San Francisco State University Pre-Health Professions Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Program (PHPCP) or have completed it within the past two years.

Work closely with an SMU admissions concierge for clear guidance, steady support, and the confidence to move forward toward a rewarding healthcare career.

Depending on the program and eligibility criteria, PHPCP students may receive direct entry, a guaranteed interview or priority consideration, as outlined in the agreement.

Eligible PHPCP students receive an SMU application fee waiver.

All applicants must meet published admission requirements. Interviews do not guarantee admission.

Guaranteed Admissions Pathways (Reserved Seats):

Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) – 6 reserved seats annually
Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) – 4 reserved seats annually
Pre-licensure Nursing (ABSN & ELMSN) – 8 reserved seats each annually
Additional qualified students beyond the reserved seats receive guaranteed interviews for the remaining cohort space.

Guaranteed Interview Agreements:

Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD)
Master of Physician Assistant (MPA) – 4 interview slots

Additional Consideration:

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) – enhanced application score consideration (not guaranteed interview)
